a rainy day in Athens

It is raining in Athens today. Plus, my hubby is sick :(
However, I am looking for the light by taking some pictures.

Kyklos

This is me starting a new subject in my blog. It is called "My beautiful Athens" and it is part of my resolution to develop an eye for joy.

Athens is a fascinating big city. It can be overwhelming, angry, tough, but it can also be very calm and beautiful. One simply needs to find one's refuge in this city. It may be a refuge in friends, family, art, faith, or even places. There are many many wonderful small cafes in Athens (Greeks are big coffee drinkers). Yiannis and I often roam the city searching for interesting, warm, friendly places, with playful decor, soulful music and great things to drink and eat.

One the places we love is "Kyklos" (as in "Circle"). It is owned by Spyros (he is currently setting up a website for his place), a nice guy from Limnos. We go there every chance we get, in order to drink warm rakomelo (raki with honey) and to people-watch. It is one of our refuges :)

Big cities can be very scary (as most things in life). One simly needs a find a way to belong, somewhere to call "home". Athens has been our home for many years. I don't know what the future holds for us, as far as the place we live is concerned. For now, we try to enjoy what we have.
